Communist vs. Nationalist and World War II China

Who was Mao Zedong?
Mao Zedong was a Communists leader of China from 1949-1976. He is the founder of People's Republic of China, which was established in 1949, and remained ruler untill his death. He commanded the Long March, and he led the Communist party into victory over Jiang Jieshi's Kuomintang in the civil war. In Mao's political campaigns, including, The Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution (Tokuda). These political campaigns are blamed for millions of death. He is ranked among the worst of 20th century dictators along the side of Stalin and Adolf Hitler, yet ranked one of the most influential poeple in the 20th Century in the Time Magazine ("Mao Zedong"). Mao Zedong is remembered as a great revoltionary who tried his best to stick up for the lower class.

Who was Jiang Jieshi?
Jiang Jieshi, also known as Chiang Kaishek, is an influential member of the Nationalist party (Kuminotang). He was a close ally of Sun Yat-Sen. He became the Commandment of Kumintang's Military. In 1925, Sun died; therefore, Jiang replaced him and became the offical ruler of Kuomintang ("Jiang Jieshi-Definition"). One year later, Jiang led the Northen Expedition to unify China, becoming China's alleged leader. He served as the Chairman of National Military Council of the Nationalist government from 1928-1948. Also, during World War II he led China. Jiang Jieshi came out of the war with a victory against Japan (Lo Upshur).

In China there was a civil war between the Nationalist and the Communist. They fought for the control of China. Eventually, the two parties were forced to form the Second United Front to prevent Japan attacking Machuria ("Chinese Civil War"). In the World War II, Japan was defeated, which declared the end of World War II, allowing the Nationalist and Communist Chinese resume civil war after the World War II ends.

U.S supports separate state in Taiwan, called republic of China because they want to do everything in their power to make sure another country doesn't fall under communist power. The U.S was giving military and financial aid to the natonalist forces in Taiwan. Soviets and China agree to help each other in event of attack because they wanted to protect each others communist forces. Later on, Mao Zedong went to Moscow in 1950 to negotiate an alliance between the two powers ("Sino-Soviet Relations"). During the fighting, the Soviets and the Chinese exchanged many things such as military strategies in return for military aid. This alliance was brief because after a while, they started questioning each others ablities. U.S tries to stop Soviet expansion and the spread of communism to prevent Soviets from influencing the rest of the world and rapidly spreading communism. Countries were noticing the imperial success of the Soviet Union, and some countries such as China, were tempted to convert to communism.

Civil War ResumesDuring the time of the civil war in China, China was under horrible economic problems. Due to these economic problems it caused the nationalist soldiers to desert to the communists. Soon after, Mao's troops began to take over the country. It was soon proclaimed "peoples republic of China." In 1949 when thePeople's republic was created it caused many nationalists to move to Taiwan. Which then caused the "two China's."

To take control: they placed all troops in the regions and they even had a brutal assault in Tibet later on. When Zedong started his reign of Northern Communist China, he sent all of his troops to Mongolia, India and Tibet. China promised autonomy to Tibet after. When China tightened it's control over Tibet, the Dalai Lama went to India (Dodin). After Tibet tried to revolt China's reign, and the revolt failed, India welcomed Tibetans, because of this China and India grew angry with each other. They wanted to flee the revolt against the chinese. The two countries fought over the borders in 1962. Although the fighting stopped, the resentment remained (Goldman).

Communists Claim a New "Mandate of Heaven"
In 1949 Mao Zedong took power of the Communist leader. He established a "People's Republic". This type of government was different than Jiang Jieshi, the leader of the Nationalist party, government. Their organization style were different. Although, they had some similarities; like, they belived in a one-party government. Mao's government focused on Communist ideas, and on the deprived lower class. Lastly, he modeled his government after the Chinese decisive ways. On July 1, 1921 the Chinese Communist founded the Communist party ("Chinese Communist Party"). In conlusion, the Chinese Communists organize national government and the Communist party.
